Collection: Charlotte Kluge

Charlotte Kluge is preoccupied with the energy and immediacy, that happens when she creates from an intuitive approach with a strong foundation in the craft. She aims for edginess and character (the clean and careful approach doesn't suit her temperament, she says). Sometimes she uses slips and glaze but always the clay as a canvas for the expression.

More and more she seeks for the imperfect and gathers inspiration from Japanese aesthetics and modern European slipware. With quick modification and decoration, she simulates errors and leave intentional fingermarks and traces of the process behind. She symbolically wishes to scratch the varnish and facade and crusades for the imperfect and authentic.

With her earthenware work, she tries to challenge the common and expected by translating the form language of the reduction fired stoneware into an earthenware approach. Hereby exploring a more accessible and environmentally friendly firing method without compromising on the expression.
